The City of Raleigh Museum in partnership with the Wake County Chapter of the American Red Cross will open a new exhibit on March 3 entitled, “The Emblem of Human Mercy: The Birth of Raleigh’s Red Cross. The exhibit will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the chapter through displays, artifacts and hands-on activities. The exhibit will highlight the Chapter’s efforts to support U.S. soldiers during World War I and the Spanish Influenza epidemic of 1918. The exhibit will be on display until May 31, 2017.

* Yoga in the Museum Yoga in the Museum

The City of Raleigh Museum is offering free bimonthly yoga classes in collaboration with local yoga studios as part of the opening of the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit entitled, Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation. The exhibit is the first national exhibit to celebrate the history and remarkable achievements of Indian Americans in the United States. Every first and third Saturday of the month from December to April the museum will offer yoga classes from 11am - 12pm, varying in style, practice, and technique to showcase the ways in which traditional Indian yoga practices have been molded into a cultural phenomenon here in the United States.

Every first Tuesday of the month in 2017, Sammy the Squirrel will join us for Storytime from 10:30-11 a.m. at the City of Raleigh Museum. Each month we will have a new theme, fun stories, exploring the museum and a project for the kids. The projects use simple materials to create a take home souvenir with no mess.

Bollywood dance is synonymous with Indian culture. Discover this dance fusion rooted in Indian classical and folk dances at the City of Raleigh Museum as we welcome the Smithsonian traveling exhibit, Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation. Explore this new exhibition as you learn a creative blend of dance movements and express yourself through a variety of Bollywood songs. This workshop with focus on the different dance styles from the regions across India. Presented by Indigo Dance Evolution Academy & Instructed by Priya Chellani.

Calling all History Buffs! Be sure to mark your calendars on Saturday, March 11th from 3-6pm for a truly historic event. The Sir Walter Social aims to invite all those who are passionate for local history to meet the sites and organizations associated with it's preservation. Come learn about the City of Raleigh Museum and its Friends Organization and discover the events and exhibits we have planned for 2017. Representatives from other sites and organizations will be in attendance to share in the experience. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the City of Raleigh Museum.

Every third Wednesday of the month in 2017, the City of Raleigh Museum will host a lunchtime lecture at Noon on various topics from Museum staff as well as visiting speakers. Each month the lectures will focus on a new topic related to museum exhibits, Raleigh history, and much more. Each lecture will last less than one hour.

Join us for a FREE Yoga class at the City of Raleigh Museum hosted by Blue Lotus Yoga. These classes are in collabroation with the museum's traveling exhibit, Beyond Bollywood: Indian American's Shape the Nation. Registration not required for the classes. Bring your own mat!
